DMX’s Public Memorial To Be Held At Barclays Center
Fans and loved ones of late rapper and actor DMX (born Earl Simmons) will be able to celebrate his life and legacy at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
His manager, Steve Rifkind, announced late Friday (April 16th), that a public memorial will be held in DMX’s honor at the arena on April 24th. The number of people who can attend has not been confirmed yet due to COVID-19 restrictions. The Barclays Center also hosted one of DMX’s final major performances in the summer of 2019.
A private service for his family and friends will be held at a church in the New York City area on April 25th.
DMX passed away inatWhite Plains Hospital in New York on April 9th, a week after suffering a heart attack. There are unconfirmed reports the heart attack was a result of an overdose. He was 50 years old.
His family confirmed his passing in a statement.
“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days. Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.”
