Shock G Of Digital Underground Died Of Accidental Overdose
Update #2 (June 10th): Shock G’s cause of death has been confirmed, nearly two months after his tragic passing.
Shock G died of an accidental overdose from a fatal combination of drugs and alcohol, the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner confirmed, according to TMZ.
The substances included fentanyl, ethanol (alcohol), and methamphetamine.
He was laid to rest on May 1st.
Original Story (April 23rd): Digital Undergrounds Shock G has been found dead at the age of 57.
Shock G‘s father, Edward Racker, told TMZ that the rapper was found unresponsive in a Tampa, FL hotel room this past Thursday (April 22nd).
Born Gregory Jacobs, Shock G was known for his alter-ego “Humpty Hump” and his contributions to Digital Underground’s “The Humpty Dance,” making airwaves in the early ’90s. Notably, his “Humpty Hump” character donned a prop known as Groucho glasses–a gag disguise made up of thick-framed glasses and a plastic nose.
In addition to his own musical contributions with Digital Underground, Shock G is also notable for helping out Tupac Shakur in the early stages of his career. Tupac was reportedly a backup dancer for Digital Underground at one point, and Shock G went on to co-produce Tupac‘s debut album in 1991, 2Pacalypse Now. Shock G also co-wrote, co-producer, and contributed to Tupac‘s hit “I Get Around.”
The news of Shock G‘s passing comes just a couple of weeks after fellow rapper DMX‘s own untimely death at the age of 50, and less than a week following the announcement of former Bad Boy Records rapper Black Rob‘s passing.

With Shock G‘s death, Digital Underground co-founder Chopmaster J (born Jimi Dright) is the sole surviving founding member of the group.
We send our condolences and prayers to Shock G’s friends, family, and fans.
