J. Cole Leaves Basketball Africa League After 3 Games Due To ‘Family Obligation’
And just like that, rapper J. Cole is done with the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
An insider told ESPN that J. Cole left the Rwanda Patriots BBC after finishing his contractual obligation to the league. They added that he parted ways from the league due to a “family obligation.”
His contract reportedly said that he would play three to six games. He completed 3 preliminary games, bringing in 5 points, 3 assists, and 5 rebounds in the 45-minute battles.
As previously reported, Morocco AS Sale guard Terrell Stoglin told ESPN that he wasn’t a fan of J. Cole joining the league. In fact, he said it was “disrespectful” to those who had worked for years to make it.
News of J. Cole joining the 12-team league made headlines earlier this month.
While Terrell Stoglin wasn’t a fan, Rick Ros defended J. Cole and said,
“In no way is this meant to be disrespectful but first and foremost, should no Black man’s dreams be censored nor limited. And comin’ from a brother, I think you would understand what building these types of relationships would do for the business. For the eyes on the industry, you know what I’m sayin’?”
He continued:
“If your father owned the team, and he had to decide between you and Cole, I believe he would find it honorable if you stepped down and let J. Cole bring what he bringin’ to the industry. More importantly, brother, you should be there to support the brother. If he made one point on the first game, by the time he get to the 10th, you should make sure he makin’ six a game, you understand? If Cristiano Ronaldo bought the team, you would be there for the ribbon-cutting, brother.”
