Cam Newton – Scott Zolak Apologizes To NFL Star For Saying Rap Music Is Distracting Him: It Was Racially Insensitive
New England Patriots broadcaster, Scott Zolak, became the headline himself following his comments about Cam Newton and rap music.
The former NFL player, who also played with the New England Patriots for seven seasons, spoke about Cam Newton last Thursday (8/26), on 98.5 The SportsHub Pregame Show saying,
“I’d turn off the rap music first of all, because I think it’s distracting for Cam. In between every throw he’s dancing. He makes a throw and the music’s still cranking.”

Although Cam Newton did not respond to the comments, Zolak claimed the two had a conversation and that Newton was ‘nothing but class.’ Zolak said of his comments,
“I should not even ever bring any sort of music into play, because I have no clue what’s going on in a player’s head.”
Many felt Zolak’s comments were bias and even racist being that rap music is usually associated with black culture. On referencing rap as a distraction, Zolak said,
“I blamed music for being a distraction in his preparation in-between a couple throws that he had and I referenced the genre of rap that was being played. That’s something I know that’s drawn attention for being racially insensitive. I’m sorry for that comment. I don’t need to make that comment.”
Since Cam entered the NFL in 2011, he has been on the bizarre side of scrutiny from the media and fans. Last season, he was criticized by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jeff Garcia for his pre-game attire and in 2011 for having a ‘very disingenuous smile.’

As the starting Quarterback, Cam Newton and the Patriots will open their season against the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 12th.
