Kanye May Testify In Trial Of Ex-Employee Who Allegedly Attempted To Use His Name In Philanthropy Fraud Scheme
Kanye West Might Testify In Trial Of Ex-Employee Who Allegedly Attempted To Use His Name In Philanthropy Fraud Scheme
Kanye West might return to Chicago as a fraud trial witness.
Rapper-producer Kanye West was reportedly subpoenaed to take the witness stand in a fraud trial. The Chicago-native might have to travel to his hometown to testify in the case of Arjun Dhillon, a former employee. Dhillon allegedly used Kanye’s name to:
“Swindle a quarter of a million dollars from a rich philanthropist running an online charity campaign, according to court records.”
Dhillon’s attorney allegedly requested that the “Eazy” rapper testifies on his client’s behalf. He also asked Kanye’s law firm to provide any communications related to the case.
In 2019, Dhillon reportedly created a series of fake emails between himself and Kanye. He used those messages to persuade Bill Pulte, a philanthropist, to transfer $250,000 to a bank account that was supposedly linked to the rapper. In actuality, Dhillon was behind the account.
Reports say that Dhillon told Pulte:
“West was willing to lend money and star power to the victim’s cause in exchange for financial support of West’s ‘design studio project.'”
Although Dhillon allegedly attempted to leverage his relationship with Kanye, they cut ties in Oct. 2018.
U.S. District Judge Thomas Durkin ordered prosecutors to submit a list of witnesses and questions by Mar. 24.
Jury selection for the trial begins Apr. 4.
