Young Thug – Teen Accused Of Sending Death Threats To Sheriff If Rapper & YSL Members Wasn’t Released From Jail Struggles With Mental Illness, His Mom Says

The mother of the teen accused of sending death threats to a Georgia Sheriff, his wife and a school district police chief if rapper Young Thug and  YSL members weren’t released from jail says he struggles with mental illness.

Per reports, Police arrested 18-year-old Quartavius Mender after he allegedly made death threats against Fulton County Sheriff’ Pat Labat, his wife and Atlanta Public Schools Police Chief Ron Applin on social media. Malaika Kulenga, Mender’s mother, says her son was uncappable of carrying out such threats and that he was diagnosed with a mental illness when he was 12.

“My son is dealing with mental health and also he’s grieving, you know? His brother was killed in September from a hit-and-run,” Kulenga said.

The accusations stems from last month’s arrests of rappers Young Thug and Gunna as a result of a grand jury indictment that names members and associates of Young Thug’s label and imprint YSL (Young Slime Life/Young Stoner Life/Young Slatt Life).  They are accused of participation in street gang activity and conspiring to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.

According to the report, Atlanta Public Schools Police Chief Ron Applin received a threatening message that read,

 “Imma kill you,” and, “Imma assassinate you.”

Labat said some of the threatening posts were made under an Instagram handle that included the letters YSL and said,

“We assume at this point that they’re gang related. Specifically, to which gang is yet to be determined.”

Kulenga, who found out her son was the subject of an FBI investigation last week, says Mender is not affiliated with YSL despite the fact that one of his cousins was named in the indictment. Kulenga says Mender hasn’t be in regular communication with that cousin.

“My son is not a gang member. He has no affiliation with any type of gang,” Kulenga said.

According to the report, the investigation into Mender started in mid-May and he was subsequently indicted on 23 counts of felony terroristic threats. He is currently being held in a jail in a county outside of Fulton.
