Naturi Naughton Admits It Was Difficult Learning How To Rap As Lil Kim For ‘Notorious’ Film: Everything Became Very Husky & Deep
Naturi Naughton had to put in a lot of effort in order to land her role as Lil Kim in “Notorious.”
In a recent interview with Jemele Hill, former 3LW member Naturi Naughton was candid about the work she put in to perfect her role as Lil Kim in the 2009 film “Notorious.” As you may already know, aspects of Lil Kim’s life were showcased in the biographical film due to her previous relationship with the late Notorious B.I.G, also known as Biggie.
Naturi Naughton admitted:
“I was struggling.”
The New Jersey native continued:
“It was horrible and they were like ‘okay, we gon’ need you to go home, work on these rhymes and come back again and you’re gonna do a second audition.’”
The “Power” actress shared:
“So I got a call back. I started practicing how I place my mouth and the sounds of my mouth and instead of like the brightness of Naturi like ‘oh my God yay!’”
Doing her best Lil Kim impression, the 38-year-old said:
“Then I was like ‘lemme rumble with the beat.’”
She added:
“Everything became very husky and very deep.”
The singer said:
“So I enjoyed the finding Lil Kim and then I started doing a ton of research, she’s a phenomenal human and not even just artist but her journey as a person. I had so much respect, I was so excited to do it.”
