Jazz composer and bassist Bill Lee – the father of famed film mogul Spike Lee – has died at the age of 94. Reportedly, Bill passed away today (May 24) at his Brooklyn home. At this time, the cause of death has not been publically shared.
Spike Lee, 66, is a highly-skilled filmmaker who is the mastermind behind many well-known productions and it looks like he got his talents from his father!
During Bill’s career, he played on albums/songs of many popular artists, including the late greats Aretha Franklin, and Odetta. He also worked with Bob Dylan, the Chad Mitchell Trio, and Chris Anderson.
In addition, Bill scored his son’s first four movies – “She’s Gotta Have It” (1986), “School Daze” (1988), “Do the Right Thing” (1989) and “Mo’ Better Blues” (1990).
Fans of the musician have taken to Spike Lee’s Instagram page to express their condolences.
