Gigi Hadid’s Rep Says Marijuana Found On Model Was ‘Purchased Legally’ & ‘Her Record Remains Clear’ After She Was Arrested & Released For Possession Amid Cayman Islands Vacation
Supermodel Gigi Hadid ran into some legal trouble while vacationing abroad.
According to reports, the fashionista found herself in a foreign prisoner detention center after authorities found marijuana and related tools in her possession.
Reportedly, Gigi Hadid and friend Leah McCarthy were traveling to the Cayman Islands when the arrest took place. The 28-year-old is said to have been flying via private jet and landed at the Owen Roberts International Airport General Aviation Terminal. Customs reportedly stopped the young women from leaving the terminal upon finding a “small” amount of “ganja” and “utensils used for the consumption of ganja” in the luggage.
Subsequently, both women were arrested and reportedly charged with “suspicion of Importation of Ganja and Importation of Utensils used for the consumption of ganja.” It reportedly wasn’t long, however, before the fashion personalities were released on bail and allowed to continue their vacation.
A rep for Hadid reportedly released a statement addressing the situation, claiming the “Next In Fashion” host was carrying medically prescribed marijuana, which they claim is legal in the Cayman Islands. The statement reportedly read:
“Gigi was traveling with marijuana purchased legally in New York City with a medical license. It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. Her record remains clear and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island,”
It seems neither of the women were phased by the incident. Both Hadid and McCarthy went on to post pictures from their sunny stay overseas, with McCarthy seemingly addressing the situation. In a since-deleted caption, the social media influencer reportedly wrote “busted” with a cigarette emoji attached, sharing images of the vacationers posing in swimsuits.
Reportedly, both Hadid and McCarthy attended a court hearing two days after their arrest, where they plead guilty to possession charges. They were fined $1,000 each, and there is reportedly no file of the conviction.
