Parents Of Carlee Russell Urges Public Not To Speculate & Let The Investigation Play Out: ‘She’s Having To Deal w/ The Trauma Of People Making Completely False Allegations About Her’
The parents of Carlee Russell – the 25-year-old Alabama woman who went missing for more than 48 hours after making a 911 call – are speaking out for the first time.
During an interview with NBC’s Priscilla Thompson, Carlee’s mother Talitha Robinson-Russell and father, Carlos Russell spoke about the moment their daughter returned home after being abducted. Carlee Russell’s mother said she felt “just so much joy” after her daughter returned home.
She continued,
“We tried to hug her as best we could, but I had to stand back because she was not in a good state. We had to stand back and let medical professionals work with her.”
Carlee was initially reported missing late Thursday evening (July 13th) while on her way home. Authorities say the nursing student called 911 to report a child was walking alone on the side of Interstate 459 South and pulled over to make sure they were safe. After speaking with 911, Carlee called a relative and informed them of what was going on. The family member claims she heard Carlee speaking with the child before hearing a scream and then silence.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found her wig, cellphone and purse on the road near her car, but no sign of Carlee or the child she called about. A local search for the young woman began shortly after, with her story receiving a lot of traction on social media. Many concluded that Carlee was abducted and a potential victim of human trafficking, lured by the deception of a child in trouble.
On Saturday evening (July 15), police received a call that Carlee had returned home. Authorities responded to her home and she was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and was later released.
Now, her parents are speaking out about the agony they faced during their daughter’s disappearance. Carlee’s mother Talitha Robinson-Russell says they received “many” texts and calls from people who “maliciously lied” to them and pretended to know their daughter’s whereabouts while she was missing.
” I didn’t know people could be so evil.”
Due to the ongoing investigation, her parents could not disclose certain details surrounding her disappearance or her return. However, her mom says that the online speculation and criticism are deeply affecting Carlee and the family.
“She’s having to deal with the trauma of people just making completely false allegations about her.”
Her mother read a brief statement during the interview, saying,
“Carlee has given detectives her statement so that they can continue to pursue her abductor.”
Carlee’s mother states that her daughter fought for her life both physically and mentally.
“She found her way back to us. However, we can’t discuss the details of that. She definitely fought for her life. There were moments when she physically had to fight for her life. And there were moments when she had to mentally fight for her life.”
The investigation is still ongoing.
