UPDATE: Nelly’s Attorney Says Rapper Was NOT Charged For Ecstasy Possession, Claims He Was ‘Targeted’

Update (Aug. 8, 2024): Nelly’s lawyer is clearing up the chatter about his arrest!

According to a statement from attorney Rosenblum Schwartz, the rapper was arrested for “no proof of insurance” stemming from 2018. However, the warrant was not issued until December 2023, and Nelly had no knowledge of it.

He alleged in the statement that Nelly was “not charged with drug possession” and was instead “targeted by an overzealous out of line officer.”

Nelly has since been released.

Original Story (Aug. 7, 2024):
Rapper Nelly had a rocky morning.

According to reports, around 4:45 am on Wednesday (Aug. 7), the “Ride Wit Me” artist was arrested in the St. Louis area for possession of a controlled substance and not having insurance. It’s said that Nelly, 49, real name Cornell Haynes II, had four ecstasy pills in his possession during the arrest. This incident comes after a performance Nelly gave last year where several fans speculated he was high while on stage. As previously reported, in January 2023, Nelly hit the stage at Juicy Fest in Australia. Amid his set, however, concertgoers noticed he appeared to struggle to keep his eyes open, and instead kept rolling them and strangely smiling.

At the time of this report, Nelly has not commented on his recent arrest.
