Tems Reveals Lyrics To Popular Song ‘Wait For U’ Were Originally ‘I Won’t Wait For You’
Tems has officially clarified the lyrics to the hit track “Wait For U.”
Nigerian singer and songwriter Tems, born Temilade Openiyi, has revealed a shocking truth about the popular song “Wait For U,” which also includes fellow musical artists Future and Drake.
In posts shared to her X (formally Twitter) account recently, the 29-year-old shared that the song was originally written differently.

In one of the posts, Tems said that people are singing the lyrics wrong to the track “Wait For U,” and she was actually singing, “I won’t wait for you.” Along with a photo upload of the lyrics, she wrote,
“Maybe now it’s time for me to confess that it was always ‘I won’t wait for you’ but I sang it in a British accent so it came out as ‘wun.’”

However, in a follow-up post, Tems shared that the lyrics were switched to “I will wait for you” to seemingly follow the popular narrative. She said,
“It’s officially ‘I will wait’ now though. I just thought it was funny af.”

The song was released on May 3, 2022, and samples Tems’ song, “Higher,” from her debut extended play, For Broken Ears, which dropped in 2020.
