Tems Speaks Out Against Religious Critics: I Am Not Your Christian Saviour
Tems took time out of her day to shed light on the fact that she’s here for her fans and not to promote religion.
Today (Nov. 29) Nigerian singer Tems took to Twitter to thank God for freedom and the foundation that has been set for her while also standing firm on the fact that she isn’t here to persuade people to believe in Christ.

Tems wrote:
“Thank God for Great counsel. Thank God for good health and growth. Not many can take out time even if they wanted to. They’re doing it cuz they have to. We Thank God. The foundation has been set.”
The 27-year-old continued her series of tweets:
“I don’t know who needs to hear this but I am not your Christian saviour. I didn’t come here to uphold your beliefs about God. I will not fit into this box you try to put me in. I won’t satisfy you in that area please find the person that will. Or ask yourself why you care.”
Analyzing the growth in her career from 2018 to now, Tems, born, Temilade Openiyi, added:
“So much growth this year. I’m here for my fans. I have worked so much on myself. It will all make sense when it happens. I started in 2018. Look at what music looks like today. Still Next level coming. I’m just about to start.”

Admitting that she lives to please herself, the “Free Mind” artist elaborated:
“I don’t brag because I’m not playing the same game. I don’t need to brag, I am who I am whether you know it or not. It is the house that is built on the solid rock that will withstand the storm. I’m trying to impress myself not you.”

Tems concluded her small rant with a gif of Denzel Washington slamming a door in a man’s face. She wrote:
“I just a baby!! I’m gonna show off. You don’t like it? Fuck you from the bottom of my heart.”

Tems seemingly rose to fame after she was featured on Afrobeats star Wizkid‘s 2020 single “Essence,” which hit top ten of the Billboard Hot 100. The single earned her a Grammy Award nomination and that same year, she was featured on Drake’s song, “Fountains.” In 2022, Tems vocals from her song “Higher,” which was sampled by Future on his single “Wait for U,” debuted at the top of Billboard Hot 11, making her the first African artist to debut at number one and the second Nigerian artist to top the chart.
Back in July, her single “Free Mind” from her debut EP appeared on the Hot 100. Tems has also received multiple award nominations, scoring two BET Awards, two NAACP Image Awards, and two Soul Train Music Awards.
