Good Move? Australia To Ban Social Media For Anyone Under 16
Australia plans to introduce laws banning children under 16 from using social media, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced, emphasizing the need to protect young users.
He stated that tech companies, not parents, will be responsible for verifying users’ ages, with no penalties for users themselves.
The proposal, which has bipartisan support, will be discussed with state and territory leaders before being introduced to parliament in late November. Albanese described the move as a response to the harm social media causes to children.
