Prince Harry Receives Apology & ‘Substantial’ Settlement From Rupert Murdoch’s British Tabloids, Company Admits To Phone Hacking & Privacy Violation
Prince Harry is getting closure after a long battle with Rupert Murdoch’s British tabloids.
In a recent settlement, Rupert Murdoch’s tabloids have issued a “full and unequivocal apology” to Prince Harry, admitting to unlawful privacy invasions, including phone hacking and surveillance, from 1996 to 2011. The apology also acknowledged the strain these actions placed on Prince Harry and his family, especially his late mother, Princess Diana.
The settlement is the first public acknowledgment by Rupert Murdoch‘s company of illegal activities by journalists and private investigators at The Sun and News of the World.
The settlement, reached just before the case went to trial, also includes a “substantial” financial payout. However, Prince Harry’s lawyer emphasized that their goal was not financial gain, but rather an acknowledgment of the wrongdoing.
Do you think this settlement will push other media outlets to be more accountable for their actions? Let us know in the comments.
