Trump Administration Orders CDC & Other Health Agencies To Pause Public Announcements
The Trump administration has ordered a temporary freeze on communications from federal health agencies, including the CDC, FDA, and NIH, until February 1.
According to a memo by acting HHS Secretary Dorothy Fink, all public-facing materials, such as regulations, announcements, and social media posts, must receive approval from political appointees. Exceptions may be made for critical safety issues but require review.
Critics argue the freeze could delay vital public health updates, with Dr. Peter Lurie warning, “When it comes to stopping outbreaks, every second counts.” Concerns persist about potential political interference in public health messaging.
