Trump Pardons D.C. Officers Convicted In Karon Hylton-Brown De@th & Cover-Up Case
Donald Trump has issued a “full and unconditional pardon” to D.C. police lieutenant Andrew Zabavsky and officer Terence Sutton, sparking backlash over their roles in the de@th of 20-year-old Karon Hylton Brown.
In October 2020, Sutton and Zabavsky pursued Hylton-Brown for riding a moped without a helmet, leading to a high-speed chase that ended in his death. Prosecutors said the officers tampered with the scene, turned off body cameras, and misled superiors. Sutton was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 66 months in prison, while Zabavsky faced 48 months for obstruction-related charges.

Sutton expressed gratitude for the pardon, saying,
“I’m just overwhelmed… I want to go back to the police department and finish my career.”
His attorney, Kellen Dwyer, added,
“We’re thrilled that President Trump ended this prosecution once and for all.”
Zabavsky’s attorney also thanked Trump, stating,
“We’re very grateful to [President Trump] for doing it.”
Prior to the news, Hylton-Brown’s mother, Karen Hylton, had pleaded with Trump not to pardon the officers, calling them “m*rderers.”
