Convicted Jan. 6 Rioter Killed In Police Altercation Days After Trump Pardon
An Indiana man, one of nearly 1,600 Capitol Hill rioters recently pardoned by President Trump, was fatally shot by police during a traffic stop just days after the amnesty was given.
Matthew Huttle, 42, allegedly resisted arrest during the stop, leading to an altercation with officers, according to the Indiana State Police. The police report states that Huttle was armed at the time, though the reason for the attempted arrest remains unclear. The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave as the department conducts its investigation.

Huttle had previously served six months in prison after pleading guilty to charges related to the January 6 Capitol riot, which saw a mob of Trump supporters storm the U.S. Capitol in a violent effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. Huttle was released from custody in July of 2024.
Reports note that his uncle, who was also present during the riot, previously expressed no remorse over their participation, telling media outlets:
“I’m not ashamed of being there. It was our duty as patriots.”
This incident has reignited debate over the controversial pardons, with critics questioning the decision to absolve those involved in the attack.
