“Jesus Christ Superstar,” originally released as a concept album before its Broadway debut in 1971, follows the final week of Jesus Christ’s life.
Erivo will take on the lead role of Jesus, with the remaining cast set to be announced later. Reports note that the actress previously participated in an all-female version of the musical in 2020, where she played Mary Magdalene and performed the popular number “I Don’t Know How to Love Him.”
The show will run from August 1–3 at the Hollywood Bowl amphitheater.
