Brittney Griner Cancels Speaking Engagement After Finding Strange ‘Gay Baby Jail’ Note Near Her Hotel Room Entrance
Brittney Griner canceled a speaking engagement after discovering a strange note.
The WNBA player was set to speak at the Women Grow Leadership Summit in National Harbor, MD, on Monday (Feb. 17). However, she left immediately after finding a piece of duct tape with the words “Gay Baby Jail” near her hotel room entrance.
Given her past imprisonment in Russia and identity as an openly gay woman, Brittney Griner reportedly found the note alarming and returned home.

Authorities investigated and determined that “Gay Baby Jail” is commonly used as a video game reference, stating there was no threat directed at Griner. However, officials are still working to identify “who placed the piece of tape, when it was done and the intention behind it.”
Women Grow CEO Chanda Macias backed Griner’s decision, saying,
“We are actively working with the venue and authorities to investigate how this happened and hold those responsible accountable. The safety of every woman at this conference remains our top priority.”
