Supreme Court Temporarily Blocks Order To Return Salvadoran Man Deported By Mistake
The U.S. Supreme Court paused a lower court’s order requiring Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s return from El Salvador, where he was deported “due to an administrative error,” though the Trump administration also alleges MS-13 ties—claims his lawyer denies.
Chief Justice John Roberts issued the temporary stay hours before the Monday deadline.
“The United States does not control the sovereign nation of El Salvador,” argued Solicitor General D. John Sauer. Judge Paula Xinis called the deportation “without any lawful authority” and one that “shocks the conscience.” Garcia’s wife urged, “I miss you so much.”
