While chatting with former NFL star Cam Newton on his Funky Friday podcast, the Pretty Girl Rock singer, 42, opened up about what she’s learned from dating two athletes and hearing stories from friends who’ve married them. According to Keri, many athletes struggle emotionally in relationships — and for a specific reason.
“In my experience…that was apparent. [They were] just stunted, emotionally stunted,” she said, explaining that the lack of real challenge or accountability from parents, teachers, siblings, or partners can leave athletes unequipped for deep emotional connection.
She clarified that her comments weren’t meant to offend, adding that she thinks they haven’t had the time to cultivate that emotional maturity because they’ve been so focused on the job that pays them millions. She also stated that the people in athletes lives often “appease” them to stay out of the way of their success.
Keri has previously been linked to athletes like NFL player Ricardo Lockette and NBA star Serge Ibaka — so she definitely knows a thing or two about life in that dating lane.
Do you agree with Keri’s take on dating athletes? Or do you think she’s being too hard on them? Let us know in the comments below! ?
