OMG Girlz, T.I. & Tiny Win $71.4 Million Verdict Against Toymaker MGA Entertainment Over Surprise! OMG Dolls
A federal jury has ruled in favor of rapper T.I., his wife Tameka “Tiny” Harris, and their pop group OMG Girlz in their high-profile lawsuit against toymaker MGA Entertainment.
The jury found that MGA’s L.O.L. Surprise! OMG Dolls unlawfully copied the OMG Girlz’s distinctive trade dress and misappropriated their likeness, awarding the plaintiffs a massive $71.4 million in damages.
U.S. District Judge James Selna has now entered judgment, tacking on 3.972% interest to the award. However, MGA is appealing the decision to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. In the meantime, the judgment and any battle over attorney fees are on hold, as both sides agreed to stay enforcement until the appeal is resolved.
Given the federal appeals process, a final outcome could take months—or even years—before the case is fully settled.
