Artificial Sweetener Splenda May Harm Male Fertility, New Study Finds + Could Cause Sperm Damage & Hormonal Disruptions
Men, get in here
A new study is raising red flags about sucralose — the sweetener behind Splenda — and its potential impact on male fertility. Published in Environmental Health Perspectives, the research found that when male rats were given sucralose over two months, they experienced decreased sperm viability, testicular damage, and hormonal disruptions. Translation? That packet of Splenda might be more harmful than sweet.
While the study was limited to rats and used higher doses than typical human consumption, the findings still raise concerns — especially as sperm counts in the West have reportedly dropped over 50% since the 1970s. Dr. Dan Nayot, a reproductive endocrinologist, clarified, “It’s likely closer to 20–25%, but that’s still a significant issue.”
His advice? Protect your fertility with better lifestyle choices — sleep well, eat clean, move more, and ditch smoking. As for Splenda? Might be time to sweeten things up more naturally.
Fellas, are you concerned about these findings?
