Beloved Philly News Anchor Mike Jerrick Learns He Has Skin Cancer During Live Broadcast After Dermatologist Spots Suspicious Elbow Mark
During a live segment on “Good Day Philadelphia,” FOX29 host Mike Jerrick was shocked to learn he had skin cancer — on air.
While filming a skincare awareness piece with dermatologist Dr. Joanna Walker, she examined a spot on Jerrick’s elbow and diagnosed it as basal cell carcinoma, the most common form of skin cancer.
“It has all the features of the most common type of skin cancer, which is also very treatable when it’s caught early,” said Walker.
Jerrick, caught off guard, asked, “What are you going to do to it, burn it off?” Walker responded it would need to be “cut and stitched.”
Jerrick later told Fox News Digital, “I never really thought it was going to be skin cancer… ‘Oh dang, I should have done this a long time ago.’”
He’s scheduled to have the spot removed Friday and advised others, “It’s important to get those checked.”
