R. Kelly Denied Bond As Judge Cites Danger To Public + Singer Still Pursuing New Trial Over Alleged Misconduct
According to AllHipHop, R. Kelly will remain behind bars after U.S. District Judge Martha M. Pacold denied his request for bond, ruling that he “has not produced any argument or evidence—much less clear and convincing evidence” to show he’s no longer a flight risk or a danger to the community.
The singer, now 57, is serving a 20-year sentence for child pornography and enticement convictions in Illinois—18 of which run concurrently with a separate 30-year racketeering sentence from New York.
Though Kelly’s legal team argued federal judges have the authority to grant bond post-conviction, Pacold said even if he qualified, the New York sentence would keep him jailed.
Kelly is seeking a new trial, claiming prosecutors and prison staff stole legal documents, bribed a witness, and recruited an Aryan Brotherhood member to harm him. He also alleged being denied urgent medical care.
The court has yet to decide on Kelly’s motion for a new trial.
Are you surprised the judge denied the singer a bond?
