‘Sinners’ Producer Says Film Costumes Were Repurposed From Marvel’s Canceled ‘Blade’ Reboot

‘Sinners’ Producer Says Film Costumes Were Repurposed From Marvel’s Canceled ‘Blade’ Reboot
“Sinners” producer Sev Ohanian revealed that the movie’s background costumes were originally made for Marvel’s stalled “Blade” reboot.
Speaking to Screencrush, Ohanian explained, “[Costume designer] Ruth Carter was working on the ‘Blade’ movie that ended up not shooting. At one point, that movie was going to deal with the past around the same era as ‘Sinners.’”
He added, “She happened to have a warehouse full of period-appropriate clothes… and Marvel was generous enough and kind enough to let us basically purchase it at price.”
Ohanian noted that while the lead actors wore original costumes, “a lot of the background actors” wore clothes designed for “Blade.”
The “Blade” reboot has faced constant delays since its 2019 announcement. In 2023, Disney pulled the film from its release calendar. Still, star Mahershala Ali remains hopeful. At a recent premiere, he urged fans, “Call Marvel. I’m ready. Let them know I’m ready.”
