Barbie Debuts First-Ever Doll w/ Type 1 Diabetes Featuring Glucose Monitor, Insulin Pump & Inclusive Accessories
Barbie has unveiled its first-ever doll with Type 1 diabetes, complete with a continuous glucose monitor and insulin pump.
“Introducing a Barbie doll with Type 1 diabetes marks an important step in our commitment to inclusivity and representation,” said Krista Berger, Barbie’s senior vice president.
The doll, created in collaboration with Breakthrough T1D, is part of the Fashionistas line and wears a blue polka-dot outfit with a circle print symbolizing diabetes awareness. Her CGM, secured with heart-shaped “Barbie pink” tape, syncs with a toy phone displaying her blood sugar levels.
“This partnership is deeply personal,” said Breakthrough T1D CEO Aaron Kowalski. “It’s an honor to work with a brand that shows children a life with Type 1 diabetes can be vibrant.”
Barbie is also releasing dolls modeled after diabetes advocates Robin Arzón and Lila Moss. “Knowledge is power,” said Arzón. Moss added, “To receive a Barbie that looks like me is both surreal and special.”
