Tina Turner’s Estate Removes $935 Tribute Wig From Website Following Backlash From Fans
A new Tina Turner-inspired wig had fans doing a double-take, and not in a good way.
The late legend’s estate unveiled a $935 wig earlier this week, meant to honor her iconic teased look, but fans quickly panned the product, calling it unrecognizable and even comparing it to Little Orphan Annie and Grease’s Olivia Newton-John.
The wig, created by Turner’s longtime hairstylist Arthur Johns, was made from “100% Remy human hair” and even came with a certificate of authenticity signed by Johns. But it was pulled from TinaTurner.com and all social media platforms within hours of its debut.
“Tina wore that hair,” Johns insisted, defending the look.
“If you do your research, you’ll see that curl was very popular in the ’90s and through the early 2000s.”
He explained the wig was inspired by how Tina’s hair would transform mid-performance, becoming bigger and wilder as she danced.

Still, the backlash came quickly, with many fans saying the piece failed to capture Tina’s signature style. Johns believes some of the criticism may have also stemmed from the choice of model, sharing:
“I did hear that a couple of people were upset that the model was not Black, but the girl that we used was half-Asian and half-Black.”
Despite the misstep, Johns stands by the design and his tribute to a star he says once told him:
“Yes, I’m Black, but I’m not soul. I’m rock and roll —and I want my hair to fly.”
What do you think about the Tina wig? Was it a miss or a hit?
