FDA Warns Against Great Value Frozen Shrimp From Walmart Over Possible Radioactive Contamination
The FDA is urging shoppers to steer clear of certain bags of Great Value frozen shrimp sold at Walmart.
According to the agency, the shrimp was imported from Indonesian company PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati and could be contaminated with a radioactive isotope called Cesium-137. While no products currently on shelves have tested positive, the FDA said it detected the isotope in a shipment from the company and has “recommended that Walmart recall the product.”

Although the levels detected were below the FDA’s “levels of concern” threshold, the agency noted that repeated low-dose exposure to Cesium-137 carries an “elevated risk of cancer.”
