Trump Calls For De@th Penalty In All D.C. M*rder Cases: ‘We Have No Choice’

Donald Trump is calling for the de@th penalty in every m*rder case in Washington, D.C.

During a cabinet meeting on Tuesday (Aug. 26), Trump said, “The thre@t of execution is a very strong preventative,” adding, “I don’t know if we’re ready for it in this country. But we have no choice.”

It remains unclear how Trump would enforce the directive, as the de@th penalty has been off the books in D.C. since 1972. The city’s last execution took place in 1957, and voters rejected its return in a 1992 referendum.

Robin M. Maher, executive director of the De@th Penalty Information Center, warned that reinstating capital punishment would “be a tremendous investment of taxpayer dollars” because “de@th penalty cases are many times more expensive than other criminal cases.” She also noted that the lengthy legal process could overwhelm D.C.’s court system.
