Jermaine Dupri Warns Music Artists Against ‘Experimenting’ w/ Their Sound: ‘All [Fans] Want You To Do Is Keep Giving Them What They Like’
#JermaineDupri has some advice for music artists.
The legendary producer recently shared on X, “Artist [SIC] will never learn, once the people like you, all they want you to do is keep giving them what they like, not go and experiment with some new sh*t.”
When users pushed back, pointing out stars like #Beyoncé, #OutKast, and #Rihanna who’ve successfully switched up their sound, Jermaine said more than once, “What you guys that are so quick to respond to my artist message are missing is that the music and the artist are 2 different things.” He continued, “Changing the sound of the music IS NOT what I’m talking about, changing the genre IS NOT what I’m talking about.”
He further explained his point by referencing Beyoncé’s country-inspired #CowboyCarter, writing, “Point is you like Beyonce doing country because she did it her way in the way that you like her, she’s not on there doing things she’s never done, she can sing anything.”
Though his comments sparked plenty of debate, Jermaine stood by his opinion.
What do you think, does he have a point?
