Games Involving Mafia Figures
#ChaunceyBillups pleaded not guilty on Monday (Nov. 24) in a New York federal court to charges of money-laundering conspiracy and wire-fraud conspiracy, after being accused of profiting from rigged poker games tied to organized crime.
The case alleges Billups, head coach of the Portland #TrailBlazers and a Hall of Fame player, “profited from rigged poker games involving several Mafia figures and at least one other former #NBA player.”
He is also accused of using his star status to lure players into the games and is now facing up to 20 years in prison for each count. After his arraignment, Billups was released on a bond of $5 million, using his Colorado home as collateral, with his daughter reportedly co-signing.
