Timbaland Introduces A.I. Artist TaTa Taktumi Full Album Already in the Works
Timbaland is taking artist development into the future — literally. The legendary producer has officially dropped new music from TaTa Taktumi, the pink-haired A.I.–generated pop star he created entirely through artificial intelligence.
According to the New York Times feature, TaTa didn’t come from a studio session or a talent search — she came straight out of Timbaland’s imagination. The Grammy winner teamed up with collaborators and A.I. software tools, including the music-generation platform Suno, to build the virtual singer from the ground up through his tech-focused entertainment company, Stage Zero.
Timbaland says the process started with him uploading his own demos, then giving the software prompts describing what he envisioned. From there, the A.I. expanded his ideas into full songs.
“It can take what I’ve done, then translate it and add on to my melody,” he said. “I’m like: ‘Ooh, I wouldn’t have thought of that. Now I’ve got a whole other song structure.’”
TaTa’s first single, “Glitch x Pulse,” was crafted through this A.I.-assisted method. Timbaland followed it with “Rack It Up,” an eerie, synth-heavy track featuring Brooklyn drill rapper Fivio Foreign, which dropped on Tuesday. And he’s not stopping there — the producer confirmed he already has plans for a full TaTa Taktumi album.
As debates around A.I. in the music industry continue, Timbaland says critics misunderstand how creators use the tools. He believes copyright holders should be compensated, but sees A.I. as no different from MPC samplers or Auto-Tune — just another evolution in digital music.
“Basic skills have diminished as digital music evolved,” he said. “You don’t have to know how to play chords. You’ve got a chord machine.”
With TaTa Taktumi, Timbaland says he’s simply embracing what’s next — and for him, the future is already here.
