Boxing Champ Gervonta “Tank” Davis Stripped of WBA Title After Arrest Warrant Issued
Gervonta “Tank” Davis is officially no longer a world champion. The undefeated boxing star has been stripped of his WBA lightweight title and placed into “Champion in Recess” status following the issuance of an arrest warrant connected to his latest domestic violence charge.
WBA president Gilberto Mendoza confirmed the decision over the weekend during a Spanish-language talk show, signaling a major shift in Davis’ career as his legal troubles continue to mount. The ruling effectively removes Davis from the active title picture — at least for now.
In addition to the arrest warrant, the WBA also cited Davis’ lack of activity as a factor in the decision. The boxer has defended his championship just twice over the past three years, with his most recent title defense taking place more than ten months ago. He currently has no fight scheduled.
Davis’ last bout ended in controversy. He fought Lamont Roach to a draw in March during a WBA title fight that included his widely discussed kneel-down moment. While Mendoza initially said he would push for an immediate rematch, negotiations between the camps eventually fell apart.
Those talks reportedly stalled after a separate domestic violence allegation surfaced involving another former girlfriend. Davis’ most recent charge stems from an accusation made by ex-girlfriend Courtney Rossel, who alleges he committed battery, false imprisonment and kidnapping during an incident on Oct. 27 at a Miami strip club.
Rossel claims the alleged incident occurred inside a back room before she was dragged through a rear exit and assaulted. As the legal case unfolds, Davis’ championship reign is officially over — leaving his future in boxing uncertain as both the ring and courtroom battles continue.
