Pharrell Breaks Silence on Chad Hugo’s Neptunes Money Claims, Says Any Owed Funds Will Be Paid
Pharrell Breaks Silence on Chad Hugo’s Neptunes Money Claims, Says Any Owed Funds Will Be Paid
Pharrell Williams is officially responding to the lawsuit filed by his longtime collaborator Chad Hugo — and his legal team says the financial dispute may be getting ahead of itself.
In a statement issued after Hugo accused Pharrell of withholding profits tied to The Neptunes and N.E.R.D., Pharrell’s attorneys said a standard accounting review is already in progress, pushing back on claims that funds were improperly withheld.
“If the accounting review determines that money is owed, the appropriate party will pay it,” Pharrell’s team said, emphasizing that the process is routine and not evidence of wrongdoing.
The statement also stressed that Pharrell has “consistently acted in good faith,” adding that he maintains “great respect for Chad” and hopes the matter can be resolved in a way that honors their shared history — a partnership that helped define modern hip-hop and pop production.
Hugo’s lawsuit alleges that Pharrell failed to properly account for royalties and profits connected to decades of work under The Neptunes banner, as well as revenue related to N.E.R.D., claims Pharrell’s team appears to frame as premature while the review is ongoing.
As the legal process unfolds, what began as one of music’s most influential creative partnerships is now facing a high-stakes business reckoning — one that could ultimately hinge less on legacy and more on ledgers.
