Vernon Maxwell Says Fellow NBA Retiree Larry Bird Once Called Him The N-Word During Game
#LarryBird’s trash talk may have crossed a line.
Speaking on the All the Smoke podcast, former NBA star #VernonMaxwell revisited a story he says took place during a game, alleging that Bird used a racial slur toward him on the court. “I said that sh*t a lot of times,” Vernon began, expressing surprise that some people were unfamiliar with the account. Addressing why Bird allegedly made the remark, he added, “That m*therf*cker from French Lick, Indiana. So what the f*ck do we expect?”
Maxwell, who played in the #NBA from 1988 to 2001, said he “heard a lot of sh*t” during his career, noting that the league was a different environment at the time. “That’s the God heaven f*cking truth, he [told] me and Buck Johnson, ‘n*gg*s get off the floor.’” Despite the incident, Maxwell said he hasn’t seen Bird in years and doesn’t hold any ill will toward him.
