“Sinners” Studio Warner Bros. Raised Immediate Concerns After N-Word Was Yelled At Michael B. Jordan & Delroy Lindo During BAFTAs & Requested Incident Be Removed From Broadcast
Warner Bros. appears to be pushing back on claims from #BAFTA producers.
According to Deadline, the studio raised immediate concerns after the n-word was audibly shouted at its Sinners stars during Sunday night’s BAFTA Film Awards, requesting that the moment be cut from the #BBC’s two-hour delayed broadcast. Warner Bros. executives reportedly complained “within minutes” of the outburst, which was reportedly an involuntary tic from John Davidson, a Tourette’s syndrome campaigner, while actors Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were presenting.
A source told the outlet that the studio was assured its concerns would be passed to the BBC and producer Penny Lane TV, challenging claims that producers in the gallery were unaware of the incident until it was too late.
Deadline adds, “Warner Bros. is said to be skeptical of the BBC and Penny Lane’s version of events and considers the explanation inadequate, given the gravity of the concerns it raised on the night.” Following an apology released Monday, BAFTA has launched a “comprehensive review” of the ceremony and the events that occurred.
