Chaka Khan Calls Out Modern Pop Stars For Using ‘Butts’ & ‘Body Parts’ On Stage: ‘Compensating For What They Don’t Have’

Veteran singer Chaka Khan is sounding off on today’s music industry, calling out what she believes is an overreliance on theatrics instead of true vocal talent.

During a recent appearance on the “Table Manners” podcast, the legendary artist criticized performers who lean heavily on physicality while on stage.

“These women are doing any and every damn thing on stage, and trying to sing, too,” Khan said. “And the ones that are doing the most physicalities — their butts and stuff, and their body parts — are the ones that usually are compensating for what they don’t have.”

Still, she acknowledged the shift in today’s entertainment landscape.

“The game has changed,” she said. “All bets are off.”

For Khan, the focus has always remained on the music itself.

“I came to sing, and I came to really do a good job,” she explained. “And that’s hard work. I don’t feel like it’s hard work once I’m doing it. I feel great.”

She also opened up about her straightforward approach to performing.

“It’s not rocket science for me,” Khan said. “I’ve never had a singing teacher that was on the road for me. We do warm up, though.”
