Whitney Houston’s Estate Auctioning Off Iconic Wardrobe & Awards, Including RIAA-Certified 9x Platinum Honor For “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”
#WhitneyHouston fans can now get their hands on a piece of the icon’s legendary legacy.
The Whitney E. Houston Legacy Foundation is putting a piece of the singer’s history up for bid. On August 11, the foundation is teaming with Julien’s Auctions to sell a collection of items pulled straight from Houston’s personal archives, with every dollar raised going back to the foundation. Highlights include the mini dress she wore at the 1988 #AmericanMusicAwards, a red Versace leather outfit from the 1999 VH1 Divas concert, tour-worn pieces from Burberry and Dolce & Gabbana, an MCM luggage set, a Bob Mackie jacket, a Richard Avedon portrait that once hung in her office, and her 9x Platinum award for “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.”
Julien’s Auctions co-founder Martin Nolan called it “a powerful celebration of Whitney’s extraordinary life, artistry, and lasting impact,” adding that each item “tells a story.” #PatHouston, the foundation’s president and executor of Houston’s estate, noted this marks the second year working with Julien’s, saying “their global reach has been fantastic” and that this year’s lineup includes “some super great one-of-a-kind memorabilia.” Select pieces will be previewed on August 8 at the foundation’s Legacy of Love Gala, the day before what would have been Houston’s 63rd birthday.
