Boxing Legend Laila Ali Shuts Down Claressa Shields Fight Talk Again: ‘Not Just Anybody Can Make Me An Offer’
Laila Ali is making it clear that talk of a potential Claressa Shields fight still comes down to one thing: money.
During an appearance on V-103’s “The Big Tigger Morning Show,” Ali was asked about Shields and whether she would consider stepping back into the ring. Ali did not sound impressed by callouts or promises.
“Not just anybody can make me an offer,” she explained. “You actually have to have the money.”
The comment adds another chapter to a years-long back-and-forth between the boxers. Tension dates back to at least 2018, when Shields took issue with remarks Ali made about women’s boxing. In 2020, Ali said she could be interested in facing Shields if the opponent and payday were right. By 2025, Ali said a comeback would require roughly $15 million to $20 million.
Shields responded by saying her team had $15 million available and even posed with an oversized check bearing Ali’s name. She also accused Ali of avoiding the fight, while Ali later pushed back, criticizing Shields’ att*cks and saying she would respond on her own timeline.
For now, Ali appears unmoved by pressure, making one thing clear: a headline-grabbing offer only matters if the money is real.
