Meek Mill is calling out the music industry, questioning how streaming rules and business decisions are affecting artists.

The Philadelphia rapper took to X to criticize an industry he believes has moved away from talent.

“Ima drop sh*t for the free to show music is not hard to make … even my old sh*t hitting!!! the business of music has gotten far from our hands the way it operates and the decisions being made that shape the business do not align with talent at all just a viral moments!”

Meek also took aim at the “1,500 streams” formula. Historically, roughly 1,500 on-demand streams were commonly used to represent one album-equivalent unit, allowing streaming activity to be measured alongside traditional album sales. Billboard and Luminate changed their methodology in 2026, and one streaming-equivalent album now equals 1,000 paid subscription streams or 2,500 ad-supported streams.

“Whoever made up 1500 streams a sale is insane and whatever music artist or black person that was in the room when that decision was made help set the the music eco system back 10 years for the artist and consumer! How did that come about?”
