Stevie Wonder Sues Former Fiancée To Evict Her From L.A. Home After Nearly 40 Years Of Living Rent-Free

Stevie Wonder is taking a decades-old living arrangement to court, seeking to remove a former romantic partner from a Los Angeles home where he claims she has stayed without paying rent since 1988.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the music legend filed an eviction lawsuit against Carmen Efferson, alleging she has occupied his property under a verbal agreement for nearly 38 years. Wonder claims there was never a written lease, and the agreed monthly rent was $0.

The dispute reportedly intensified this summer when Wonder’s representatives attempted to enter the home for an insurance inspection. They claim Efferson repeatedly denied access, potentially putting the property’s coverage at risk.

In July, his legal team served notice ending her permission to remain at the residence. Efferson was reportedly given until August 27 to leave, but Wonder alleges she has not vacated the property.

The situation also sparked a tense email exchange. Efferson accused one of Wonder’s attorneys of using a “racist cold-blooded ‘white male privilege’” tone and demanded that communication stop. Another lawyer, David Huff, disputed her characterization and warned that continued resistance to the inspection could result in eviction.

Adding another layer to the disagreement, Efferson and Wonder were reportedly engaged during the late 1980s. Wonder has since married Tomeeka Robyn Bracy, his third wife, in 2017.

The singer is now asking a judge to order Efferson out and award him damages and legal expenses. The dispute remains unresolved in court.
