Laura Govan Responds to Shaunie Oneal’s Criticism of ‘Basketball Wives: LA’

Last week, we shared news that ratings for this season’s Basketball Wives: LA made a significant dip in viewership. In fact, they had only retained half of the viewers that use to tune into the VH1 reality show. One of the show’s producers, Shaunie O’Neal, posted a cryptic (‘cryptic’ may be a bit of an exaggeration) message on twitter, saying that the show need a serious ‘make-over’. She never clarified, but most of us assumed that she meant making some changes with the cast. Fast forward to the present day and one of the cast members, Laura Govan chatted with Sister 2 Sister magazine, giving her two cents on what she felt about Shaunie’s comments.
“I might say that I would agree with her. A makeover is needed, but I don’t know to what extent. If you gonna have your name stamped on something, you should definitely support it.”
She continued:
“If it’s ‘Basketball Wives,’ then let’s hold this title. At least have some basketball affiliation. At least keep it in the group, just have an affiliation. I’ve been with my guy 12 years, regardless of marriage or not. I’ve paid my dues. Give me some people who have paid their dues.”
Hmmm. I’m not sure which cast member she’s referring to, who didn’t pay her dues, but it sounds like Laura wants to remain on the show. Who do you think should get the boot? [P.S. Totally unrelated, but maybe not–Shaunie and Laura have history. A few years ago, Shaunie accused Laura of having an affair with her ex-NBA husband, Shaq. Laura and her sister, Gloria, adamantly deny these allegations.] [EUR Web]

Both shows should get canned. LA and the original Miami. Its pointless the only “wife” is Malaysia, Jackie and recently Gloria. I don’t even know why Shaunie named it Basketball Wives to begin with. Then she REALLY missed the boat when she casted Draya for LA when she only dated two basketball players….FAR from a wife..
I thought Shaunie was crazy for even PAYING a woman she suspected of helping to destroy her marriage- nothing good could have came of that. I agree both should be cancelled. LA is rediculous, and Miami- well, they just acted like a bunch of bullies with nothing else to do.
She getting paid off the broad.. I’d hire her too to make a fool of herself while im ghetting paid. sshhhhiiidttt!
CANCEL BOTH!!! PLEASE & THANK YOU!!!
Look cancel both shows! Waist of time and money!!!
Shaunie O’Neil should be ashamed of herself for producing a show that is soooo degrading to women……especially Black women!!! These ghetto women are forced to hang-out together because they have been casted & are being paid to show-up, when they have nothing to show-up for, but to dine, drink, & fight!!!! Jackie Christi is certifiably psycho (the only reason Doug must stay w/this crazy woman is that he’s afraid that she’ll put a bullet to his head if he tries to leave her) & this new Bambi Chick has absolutely nothing going for her, but some fake rap ghetto nonsense. The rest of the cast seem to have some redeeming qualities, but that’s even kind of a stretch.
