Details of Private “Watch The Throne” Listening Party Revealed + Jay Dropping New Solo Album

While us regular folk are out here waiting eagerly for the “Watch The Throne” official release, some top insiders in the Hip Hop game got to take an early listen. It irks me, just a little, that I couldn’t hear it for myself, and even worse, the recaps that the sources provided are so great that it makes me anticipate the album even more. Here is a short version of what listeners revealed.

- “No Church” is the first song, which features Frank Ocean and focuses on the question “Is the pious loved by the Gods because it is pious, or is it pious because it is loved by the Gods?” Basically it’s about religion and power. Hmmm sounds…devilish.
- The second song, “Lift Off” will be the next single, if Jay and Yeezy decide to release one. And it features Beyonce!
- Someone else mentions that there is a song that uses the concept of “Racks on Racks” but it’s title was not revealed. There’s another song called “Black on Black” about intra-racial violence. Frank Ocean appears on one more track and there’s another song where both artists speak to their unborn sons. Nice!
- Apparently the duo has redone this album 3 times since they started. They’ve added songs and taken off a few songs, one of which might be “H.A.M” which was released to the public a while ago.
- After being asked when it will officially be released of course all Jay had to say was “soon.” He explained that they were very meticulous with developing the album. “If we were gonna do it, we were gonna do it together. No mailing it in.”
Before ending the listening shin-dig, Jay-Z also mentioned that his solo album will be coming out after this one and made a short comment on how he feels about Obama‘s term. He said, “Numbers don’t lie. Unemployment is pretty high. It’s fucked up, but he’s trying not to be the angry black man.” You can check out GQ or Rolling Stone for more in depth details.
