Common On Dating Erykah Badu, “That was my first heartbreak.”

This week, an episode of the Wendy Williams Show aired, featuring rapper Common where he discussed his past relationships with songstress Erykah Badu and tennis champ Serena Williams. Peep a few excerpts:

On Erykah Badu breaking his heart:

“She handed it to me. I was in my hotel room on tour and …she called me and was like, ‘Hey, I don’t wanna be in this relationship no more. I’m liking somebody else.’ That was my first love and my first heartbreak. It taught me a lot of things, and when it happened I kinda really got into myself and really learned about myself and I was able to move on, and now me and E is real cool.”

Badu and Common dated from 2000 to 2002, after she’d dated rapper Andre 3000 and had a son with him in 1997. Later she had a daughter with rapper D.O.C in 2004. And then in 2009 she gave birth to her third child, a daughter, with rapper Jay Electronica.

On his relationship with Serena Williams:

“I enjoy a woman who is thick and likes to cook and is strong and intelligent, still God-loving but knows how to have fun and talk slick. Serena is definitely one of those women. She embodies that, everything that I just named in Ghetto Dreams and just being a strong, beautiful human being. We’re just friends now but I love her.”

In terms of what the media has seen, Serena has dated less publicly  (or maybe she’s just really good at keeping her love life private). The only WELL KNOWN public love affair that we know of is her relationship with Common, which is rumored to have started in 2007 and ended in 2010.

In non-dating news, Common’s book “One Day It’ll All Make Sense” was released on the 13th, the same day he appeared on Wendy Williams’ show. The book is an autobiographical work, which tells about all his dilemmas as he tried to make it in the Hip- Hop world. Check out the footage of Common free-styling on the Wendy Williams show below.
