Magazine NOT Sorry for Rihanna ‘N*gga B*tch’ Controversy, “We will not be silenced.”

We thought that this story was put to bed, but the ridiculousness of this all, continues. This week, the editor of of Jackie Magazine (a Dutch publication), Eva Hoeke, apologized for an offensive article that had been published about Rihanna. In the article, the publication jokingly (their words, not mine) called Rihanna a “N*gga B*tch.” Eva Hoeke released a statement in which she apologized and resigned. Fast forward to the present day and the magazine’s publisher, Yves Gijrath, has made a statement saying Hoeke’s mistake was not publishing a racist article, but failing to stand behind it strongly enough.
Gijrath explained,
“[T]here is nothing wrong in the magazine. [Hoeke] presented it as a joke, but it most certainly was not a joke. It was an interpretation [of a fashion style]. […] She should have said: “we did not realize this interpretation is such a touchy subject. We never meant any harm and offer our sincere and upright apologies.” But because of all the fuss, Eva started to wiggle in all directions, and therefore we have come to the conclusion her credibility has been undermined.”
Gijrath also said that the magazine will not allow Rihanna to write a reaction (contrary to what was originally reported) and a retraction will not be issued from the magazine. He explained,
“We will not be silenced. People are totally off limits when calling both the magazine Jackie, and Eva Hoeke racist. Jackie is even produced by an editorial staff that is of mixed origins.”
The majority of us are HIGHLY offended at the use of the term “N*gga B*tch”, but do we see Gijrath’s point at all? Can we genuinely be upset of their interpretation of Rihanna? Leave a comment and let us know. P.S. Did dude say, Jackie’s staff is of mixed origin? Oh, okay.
