Warren G Dishes on Upcoming EP + The State of Hip Hop Now:: “Quit Riding Other Artists”

41-year-old rapper/producer Warren “G” Griffin III became well-known in the early 90’s for rapping with the late Nate Dogg, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre . This week, we held a Twitter #TBJChat with him and had a chance to rap w/ him about what he’s bee up to musically, upcoming projects, and the current state of Hip Hop.
On what he’s been up to lately:
“I’ve been in the lab producing for other artists in the industry, myself and the young talent I have coming up next. I’m working on a Warren G & Nate Dogg EP, also. I’m gonna drop a track from it right after the Grammys called “Party We Will Throw Now,” Warren G featuring Game and Nate Dogg. Also, be on the lookout for Young Jeezy’s next single featuring Ne-Yo “Leave You Alone,” I produced it… Also be on the lookout for WarrenG.com and my youngstas who I feel are the tightest on the West. If you don’t believe YouTube and check out Thisiswarreng.com and check out the video YA G FUNK and let me know what you think.”
On if his new EP is a way of keeping Nate Dogg’s legacy alive:
“For sure, I will continue to keep his music and spirit alive, as long as I’m doing G Funk music which me and him made huge.”

On his thoughts on the state of hip-hop now:
“I feel like it’s too many fads going on and artists need to just be themselves and quit riding another artist because they’re hot… I’ve been in this industry for a long time and been on the hunt lately for a new agent so I talk to a cat at WME. And he straight dissed me until I told him I have at least 10 offers on the table for shows. But at the same time, cats moving and doing shows that’s nowhere near my status so I just wanted to say ‘if you dis Warren, you dis yourself, lol.’ I will see him and his agency at the top! #fuckem.”
On his advice to other artists trying to make it:
“I wanna let artists know to be yourself and believe in your art and everything will be fine and keep faith in God. Also get a good lawyer and manager and stay humble and look, listen and learn, so you won’t run into flaws.”
