Sneaker Pimps Photo Recap ::: A Sneaker Virgin’s Perspective + Performance Video Footage
Men seem to love a woman that can appreciate a dope sneaker, but I’m no sneaker girl. I own one pair of Nikes (sorta Nike bootish) and a pair of New Balance. I’m a snobbish designer sneaker girl–Prada, Gucci, etc. (Judge Me) and when I can’t afford ’em, I throw a heel on.
After, attending last night’s Sneaker Pimps event in DC, I decided that although I’ll stay w/ my current shoe pattern, there’s a whole sneaker culture that I now have a crush on. After all, this was my FIRST sneakers pimp event. (See the Rick Ross video performance at Sneaker Pimps in Miami.)
What the hell is Sneaker Pimps? It’s only thee worlds largest touring sneaker hip-hop lifestyle exhibition featuring over 1500 pairs of rare, limited edition, vintage, celebrity signed, artists collaborated sneakers and a collection of sneaker inspired artwork, fashion and photography. Last night, the tour stopped by DC’s Lux Lounge.
Before I start, let me first say, don’t expect nothin’ deep and thought provoking. From a virgin’s perspective, I feel like I was in a secrety society of undiscovered (to me) art. Everywhere I turned, there were hangin’ sneaks, sneaker art, dudes w/ sneaks in the air & folks that appeared to be in deep conversation. I swear I saw a sneaker exchange similar to one of a drug deal. (Yo, what size? 9.5. How much?…). Meanwhile, there were performances from Tabi Bonney, the Cool Kids, Black Cobain, Fattrel, Curren$y & some more folks.
There were a limited # of women in the building. Those that were present had on sneaks (w/ skirts, leggin’s, jeans, etc.)–lot’s of sneaks w/ fishnets (I’m guilty). But all were def fly. Girlie girls. Lesbo’s.
And the overall vibe…How do you capture a vibe in words? Have you ever been high, w/ a few shots, but amped at the same time? Yeah, me neither. But that was the general feeling that I experienced as I watched a number of DMV artist perform (video footage up soon).
I promise to update w/ more performance shots lata!
S/O to the Sneaker Suite for takin care of me!
