(Updated) Carmelo Anthony’s Sister Passes + Lala Responds via Twitter, Family Releases Statement
Sad news—Carmelo Anthony’s sister, Michelle Anthony, passed away on Tuesday from a pre-existing medical condition in Baltimore.

Carmelo’s wife, Lala Vasquez, tweeted Thursday morning, “On behalf of myself & Melo, thank u all 4ur condolences on the loss of Mel’s sister.We r holding up and being strong. #anangelhasherwings” Carmelo, who plays for the Nuggets, missed his game against San Antonio, but is expected to return after Christmas. A family representative issued the following statement to CBS, “It is a difficult time. especially during the holidays.”
Thursday evening, the Nuggets also released a statement, “Our entire organization supports Carmelo during this difficult time for him and his family. It is heartbreaking news, particularly during the holiday season.”
His sister Michelle leaves behind four children.
